NBC was the only other English-language broadcast network to offer fresh programming last night, showing the premiere of burnoff anthology dramedy Love Bites (1.0/3 in 18-49, 2.5 million viewers) at 10 PM. It finished dead last in the hour.Eventually it was given a home in the summer burn off section of TV. There were also a lot of production problems, including the departure of a main actress, a pregnancy, and the loss of its showrunner.
With all these problems, it’s no wonder the show turned out to be a bit of a joke. The format for the first episode of Love Bites Season 1 DVD for Sale, titled “Firsts,” involves three unrelated segments that only connect together through the character’s various friendships. These segments are supposed to be feel-good fluff stories, and they constantly lean on overused clichés. The characters are forgettable, as are the jokes, which rely heavily on pop culture–but not in a good way. The only positive thing I can say about the whole episode was Craig Robinson, who managed to be the only person to get a laugh out of me.
