Here is a wonderful and hilarious original TV version of "Get Smart" with Don Adams. The DVDs look and sound better than anyone would probably expect, while the extras, though limited, are of definite interest to the show's fans. Get Smart Seasons 1-5 DVD for Sale with decent price and have a fun!
The concept of Get Smart Seasons was simple, and the execution wasn't much more complex: Take the image of the dapper super spy, complete with sexy femme fatales, ingenious gadgets and devious archvillains, and replace the suave guy at the center with an overly-confident putz.
The opening sequence mimicking the original series title credits with the series of underground doors underscored by that familiar theme music is especially impressive and sets the right tone for the rest of the film. Dialogue, kept mostly in the center and front channels, is always clear.
Carell's Smart is considerably more self aware than Don Adams' headstrong and blindly self confident incarnation. Carell is funny, but the larger picture of Maxwell Smart becomes somewhat muddy. Anne Hathaway is always charming and updates 99's female superspy of the sixties with a more aggressive attitude and a confusing backstory of her own.
The Get Smart's funniest moments are Smart's meetings with the Chief. Edward Platt's gruff but avuncular spy boss (who we eventually learn is named Thaddeus) tries his darnedest to model the patience of Job, but is inevitably driven to the end of his rope (and fuse) by Max's dunderheadedness and steadfast insistence on adhering to CONTROL's guidelines, however impractical.
If you are familiar with the spoof of Mel Brooks, you pretty much know what to expect here. Anything silly goes. There are lots of puns and slapstick humor. It's very easy to find something to laugh at
