The Vampire Diaries tells the story of Elena, a high school student who lives in Mystic Fall and meets the Salvatore brothers just after the death of her parents in a car accident. Damon and Stefan are vampires who are from the original founding families of Mystic Falls but are also the same vampires that the Founders Council is hunting. Elena is pulled between both brothers are they fight to protect her and the town from other vampires, werewolves, hyrids, witches, and everyday humans.
It focus on the love triangle between the protagonist Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) and vampire-brothers Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder). As the narrative develops in the course of the series, the focal point shifts on the mysterious past of the town involving Elena's malevolent doppelganger Katherine Pierce (Katerina Petrova), and the family of Original Vampires, all of which have an evil agenda of their own.

Elena removed the stake from Mikael, and it took him awhile to come to. Rebekah, who'd clearly already done her hair (which looked great this episode), passed the time painting her toenails while resting her foot on a leather ottoman. She's such a bad girl! This was not a happy reunion. Rebekah accused Mikael of wanting to use the dagger on her. Mikael said he was never after her; he was only after Klaus. Klaus had killed her mother and blinded her to it. Rebekah said she knew Klaus would pay for that with his life, but it was Mikael who destroyed their family when he turned them into vampires and made them killers -- not Klaus.
