In Two and a Half Men Season 9, The Harper brothers Charlie and Alan are almost opposites but form a great team. They have little in common except their dislike for their mundane, maternally cold and domineering mother, Evelyn. Alan, a compulsively neat chiropractor and control-freak, is thrown out by his manipulative wife Judith who nevertheless gets him to pay for everything and do most jobs in the house. Charlie is a freelance jingle composer and irresistible Cassanova who lives in a luxurious beach-house and rarely gets up before noon. Charlie "temporarily" allows Alan and his son Jake, a food-obsessed, lazy school kid who shuttles between his parents, to move in with them after Alan's separation/divorce. The sitcom revolves around their conflicting lifestyles, raising Jake (who has the efficient, caring dad while having a ball with his fun-loving sugar uncle who teaches him boyish things), and bantering with Evelyn and various other friends and family.
Putting aside the fact that Charlie Harper's death was treated as though he were some unseen, uncared about character on the show, as bitter girlfriends kicked around his memory by spouting off the venereal diseases he shared with them, there were some genuinely funny moments, as well as some special guest appearances. Among those who wandered into Charlie Harper's house were Thomas Gibson and Jenna Elfman, arriving in character as Dharma and Greg (of the show by the same names, co-created by Chuck Lorre). John Stamos, who was once rumored to be the replacement for Sheen in the series, also stopped by. In the end, it was suicidal Walden Schmidt (Kutcher) who came to stay. He even christened Charlie Harper's bedroom with a threesome.
Well, that was what the series was used to be about anyway… But with all the big changes on the show, we shall see as not much has been revealed. Most likely it will still cover dating, divorce, sex, money, love and single parenthood as these has made this comedy show a hit.
